HALO™ Turns For Leads: Extras

Considerations

Followers can find this element challenging because they have to cover a large distance in a short period of time. Leads can help take some of the load by moving themselves while leading the turn. This takes the form of a circular partnership rotation.

Watch the demonstration again:

and compare it with the partnership rotation component (reverse angle):

The latter clip has the halo turn removed for you to observe the core partnership movement clearly.

Instead of the lead remaining on one spot and the follower doing all the moving, the lead moves on the opposite side of the same circle as the follower. The follower need only travel half as far. A further advantage is that there is no issue of obstruction: the lead is constantly moving out of the follower's way during the halo.

Further Practices

You can also perform this turn in the anti-clockwise direction, with either hand-hold. A key consideration is the relative position of your partner; a conventional partner offset makes turning in this direction awkward because you're entirely in your partner's path. The solution is to ensure that the partnership alignment is either square or has reverse offset (your partner to your left).
